Most of us did not have healthy, generative conflict modeled for us growing up.
Unfortunately, given the way our brains develop, that means most of us are still walking around with a seriously underdeveloped capacity to tolerate and manage conflict in a way that leads to better outcomes and relationships.
This is a key gap—not just in our work as leaders, but in our lives. It's damn hard to lead an authentic life if you cannot manage conflict in a healthy way.
Over the coming weeks, I plan to explore conflict. What does healthy conflict look like in product teams? What gets in the way? How do we get better at it? What's our role in it?
I'd love to hear: what are some of the key challenges you face when it comes to conflict? Let's get better at this together. Reply and let me know.
I really like the work Brené Brown has done around conflict, vulnerability, and gender.
